A licensed practical nurse (LPN) also known as licensed vocational nurse (LVN) is a nurse that provides basic patient care. LPN/LVNs work under the supervision of registered nurses (RNs), doctors and other providers to give basic medical care services by working directly with the patient, their family and the healthcare providers.
LPN/ LVNs work in a wide variety of healthcare settings such as:
- Hospitals
- Long-term care facilities
- Retirement homes / nursing homes
- Clinics
- Doctor's offices
- Home health
- Hospice
The 1,300 clock hour educational program for LPN/LVNs provides technical training in basic nursing skills through classroom instruction, simulation and other skill labs, and in clinical rotations. Successful completion of this course prepares the graduate to sit for the state licensing exam for LPN/ LVNs.
